I joined the Foreign Service for the adventure, arriving in the Soviet Union by kayak, riding horses along the Rio Bravo, and hiking in Tajikistan were a few memorable ones, but I stayed for the rewards of public service. When you help out an American in prison, or see a treaty signed, or provide humanitarian relief, it feels pretty good!
